Where We Fall

Available: April 19, 2016

Thank you to NetGalley.com and to the publisher for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

What I thought what was going to be a light, fluffy women’s fiction book with a (cue the music) horrible secret was anything but. This book read like a lead balloon. It was as if the author was trying to still be part of Oprah’s Book of the Month Club and the next big literary genius with her deep work of literary fiction. It was a chore to get through and its still never explained why Abby doesn’t do the front seat on a drive.

What I loved: Nothing. But I liked the idea of Cold Creek . It sounded peaceful, relaxing and just what the doctor ordered.

What I didn’t love: One of the best things of an alternative chapter point of view is to experience the thoughts, cadence, words of the character who is speaking for that chapter. Every single chapter read from the exact same speaking style – overused, flowery prose and WAY too deep of thoughts for every character. Seriously – Juliana the 16 year old character sounded like she just came from a bindge watching session of Dawson’s Creek. No realistic 16 year old spoke and thought like her.

What I learned: If everyone just takes responsibility for their part, things would work ut a lot better.

Overall Grade: C-
