Rome in Love

If you have never read an Anita Hughes novel before, you will find this to be a delightful romance. If you’re like me and had read French Coast less than a month ago, this book will seem like a retelling of the same story, different European destination. It’s a nice love tale of a beautiful woman being jilted by a jerk who returns to San Francisco (seriously - all of the exes in her books live in San Francisco – what gives?) who embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure (this time in Rome) and finds love.

What I loved: Just like in French Coast, this novel has another beautiful, filthy rich, blond sidekick who is hiding from something and finds incredible love but is also a nicely written character. I also appreciated the fictional letters from Audrey Hepburn to a friend while she filming “Roman Holiday.” Heir inclusion was a nice touch and reminded the reader of the historical significance of the movie.

What I didn’t love: If your main character gets sleepy drunk every time she has a cocktail, don’t you think she would wise up by the third time it happens and stop drinking? My other concern is the remake of “Roman Holiday”. This movie is never filming scenes, Amelia Tate seems to have no cast mates, wardrobe is not concerned with the amount of pasta and other carbohydrates she eats throughout the novel and that aspect of the tale is utterly ridiculous.

What I learned: There is always an incredibly rich blonde woman staying in your hotel and she loves to meet new people.
